About Guillaume Bassil, MD

Guillaume Bassil, MD, is a preventive cardiologist who specializes in managing heart disease and controlling cardiac risk factors through lifestyle modification and medical therapy. He sees patients at the East Haven, West Haven, and Hamden locations of HeartCare Associates of Connecticut.

Specifically, Dr. Bassil works on preventing and treating conditions like coronary and peripheral vascular atherosclerosis as well as heart failure and atrial fibrillation and controlling risk factors like hypertension, hyperlipidemia, and a sedentary lifestyle. He also focuses on the diagnosis of cardiovascular disorders through multiple imaging modalities, including echocardiography, nuclear imaging, and vascular ultrasonography. He strives to provide holistic, patient-centered care through this multi-angle approach.

Dr. Bassil completed his medical education at the American University of Beirut in Lebanon and subsequently moved to the US, where he first completed a postdoctoral fellowship in molecular cardiology at Tufts University Medical Center in Boston. During his research time, he focused on the mechanisms through which oxidative stress and diabetes can lead to cardiac rhythm disorders like atrial fibrillation and on the development of new drugs to counter that.

Dr. Bassil moved to New York City afterward to complete his clinical training at the New York-Presbyterian Hospital, Weill Cornell Medical College. He stayed there for six years to complete his Internal Medicine residency and Cardiovascular Disease fellowship. He subsequently came to HeartCare Associates of Connecticut to serve the local community and provide patients with excellent and compassionate care.

In his free time, Dr. Bassil enjoys cooking a healthy and delicious meal at home, hitting the pool for swimming laps, or checking out a wine tasting event.
